Minutes per alert = average review time
Hourly analyst cost = loaded labor cost per analyst hour
Non-labor categories = annual costs entered by the user

Assumptions: The model treats alert volume and average handling time as stable annual averages and excludes costs not entered. It does not evaluate the legal adequacy of monitoring coverage or alert disposition.

What the result means

The total estimates annual resources consumed by the modeled monitoring workflow. Cost per alert is a unit-cost measure that can help compare operating scenarios.

A lower cost per alert is not necessarily better if it results from inadequate review depth or weak monitoring coverage.

Should escalated investigations be included in average alert minutes?

Include them only if your cost scope is meant to cover that work. If escalated cases have very different effort, model them separately for a clearer view.

Can I use generated alerts instead of closed alerts?

Yes, but keep the volume and handling-time definitions consistent. Generated-alert volume is useful for intake capacity, while closed-alert volume may better reflect completed workload.

Does fewer alerts always reduce AML risk?

No. Lower alert volume can result from better tuning, but overly narrow monitoring can also miss relevant activity. Cost should be considered alongside risk coverage and alert quality.

What costs belong in QA/testing?

Examples can include secondary review, model or scenario testing, tuning validation, and quality-control effort, depending on your operating model.

Does this calculator assess BSA/AML compliance?

No. It estimates operating cost only and does not evaluate whether the institution’s AML program, monitoring, investigations, or reporting meet applicable requirements.
