Etsy Profit Estimator

The Etsy Profit Estimator calculates estimated profit from an Etsy sale after product cost, listing fees, transaction fees, payment processing, offsite advertising, shipping, and other order expenses. It is intended for sellers who need a quick unit-economics check before setting or changing a listing price.

Because Etsy charges can include both fixed and percentage components, the estimator itemizes the fee burden and shows profit margin on revenue. Sellers can test different prices, shipping strategies, and advertising assumptions while keeping the calculation aligned to the same order value.

1. Enter sale revenue
Add the item price and any shipping amount charged to the buyer in separate fields.

2. Add direct costs
Include materials, purchased goods, packaging, and the actual shipping label cost.

3. Check fee assumptions
Enter the listing, transaction, and payment-processing rates that apply to the order.

4. Include offsite ads when relevant
Use the applicable percentage only for sales attributed to Etsy Offsite Ads.

5. Review profit and margin
Compare scenarios before changing the listing price or shipping policy.

Formula:

Profit = Buyer-paid revenue − Product cost − Actual shipping − Listing fee − Transaction fee − Processing fee − Offsite ad fee − Other cost

Percentage fees are calculated on item revenue plus buyer-paid shipping in this simplified model. Payment and fee rules can vary by country and account settings.

What the result means

The result is the estimated order-level profit remaining after the entered Etsy fees and direct costs.

Taxes collected and remitted by Etsy, currency conversion, VAT on seller fees, refunds, and regulatory operating fees are not automatically included.

Given: Item revenue $45, buyer-paid shipping $5, product and packaging cost $14, actual shipping $6.50, listing fee $0.20, transaction fee 6.5%, and processing fee 3% + $0.25. No offsite ad fee applies.

Calculation: Buyer-paid revenue = $50. Transaction fee = $50 × 6.5% = $3.25. Processing fee = $50 × 3% + $0.25 = $1.75. Total fees = $0.20 + $3.25 + $1.75 = $5.20. Profit = $50 − $14 − $6.50 − $5.20 = $24.30.

Result: Estimated profit = $24.30.

The order retains a 48.60% profit margin before overhead, income tax, and any unentered costs.

Are Etsy fees the same in every country?

No. Payment processing rates, taxes on fees, and some regulatory charges differ by seller location. Replace the defaults with the rates shown for your account.

Should shipping charged to the buyer count as revenue?

Yes for order economics, because percentage fees may apply to that amount and the shipping payment helps offset the label cost.

When should I enter an offsite ad fee?

Enter it only when the order is attributed to Etsy Offsite Ads and the fee applies to your shop.

Does the result include income tax?

No. The estimator calculates order-level operating profit before income tax and fixed business overhead.

How can I use this to set a price?

Adjust item revenue until the profit and margin cover your direct costs, expected overhead, and desired earnings. Then compare the result with market pricing.
