Exam Attendance Calculator

The Exam Attendance Calculator tracks attendance for exam-related sessions such as review meetings, mock exams, laboratories, or required preparation classes. It calculates the current attendance rate, the rate after a planned number of future attendances, and how many additional sessions are needed to reach a target.

This page is useful where eligibility for an exam depends on attendance or where a student wants to monitor participation. It treats every session equally and does not determine whether an institution excuses specific absences.

1. Enter completed sessions
Provide the number held and the number attended.

2. Add future sessions
Enter how many sessions remain in the plan and how many you expect to attend.

3. Set the required rate
Use the attendance threshold relevant to your course or program.

4. Review the projection
The main result combines completed and planned sessions.

5. Check recovery needs
The additional-session line assumes perfect attendance from now on.

Current attendance = Sessions attended ÷ Sessions held × 100
Projected attendance = (Attended + Future attended) ÷ (Held + Future sessions) × 100
Perfect-attendance sessions needed = ceil[(Target × Held − Attended) ÷ (1 − Target)]

In the recovery formula, the target is used as a decimal. Every session is assumed to carry equal attendance weight.

What the result means

The projected rate shows the attendance percentage after the future scenario entered.

Official policies may count excused absences, partial attendance, or different session types differently.

Given: 24 sessions held, 21 attended, six future sessions, attendance planned for all six, and a 90% target.

Calculation: Current attendance = 21 ÷ 24 × 100 = 87.5%. Projected attendance = (21 + 6) ÷ (24 + 6) × 100 = 90%. Recovery sessions = ceiling[(0.90 × 24 − 21) ÷ (1 − 0.90)] = ceiling(6) = 6.

Result: Attending all six future sessions raises attendance to exactly 90%.

Do excused absences count as missed sessions?

Follow the official policy. Exclude an excused session from sessions held only when the institution removes it from the denominator.

Can I enter future sessions I may miss?

Yes. Future attended can be lower than future sessions to model expected absences.

Why does reaching 100% become impossible after an absence?

With equal-weight sessions, every future attendance increases both the numerator and denominator, so the rate approaches but never returns to exactly 100%.

Does this determine exam eligibility?

No. It calculates a rate; eligibility depends on the published course or institutional rule.

What does perfect-attendance sessions needed mean?

It is the minimum number of additional sessions you must attend without another absence to reach the target.
