The calculation is intentionally operational rather than agronomic: it estimates water delivered through the wash system, not the amount required to meet a sanitation, biosecurity, or environmental standard. Actual needs depend on soil load, equipment size, pressure, detergent use, recycling, and local discharge requirements.

What the result means

The main result is the estimated fresh-water supply needed after accounting for the entered recovery or reuse percentage.

This does not determine a required cleaning standard or wastewater-control practice. Use site-specific procedures and applicable environmental or biosecurity guidance.

Given: 6.5 gal/min, 15 minutes per machine, 8 machines, and 20% water recovery.

Calculation: Gross water = 6.5 × 15 × 8 = 780 gal. Recovered = 780 × 0.20 = 156 gal. Fresh water = 780 − 156 = 624 gal.

Result: Fresh water required = 624 gallons, or 78 gallons per machine.

This is a supply estimate; actual water use changes with how often the trigger is open and how much cleaning each machine requires.

Should wash time include setup and inspection time?

Only include minutes when water is actually flowing if you want a water-volume estimate. Non-flow setup time does not add gallons.

What if I use a pressure washer?

Enter its actual gallons-per-minute flow rate. Higher pressure does not automatically mean higher water use; many pressure washers have relatively modest flow.

How does water recovery affect the result?

The recovery percentage reduces fresh-water demand by the assumed reusable portion of gross wash water. It does not change the gross volume passing through the washing process.

Can I use this for pesticide equipment cleanout?

The arithmetic can estimate water volume, but required rinsing procedures and handling may be governed by product labels and regulations. Follow the applicable instructions rather than relying on this estimate alone.

Does the calculator include evaporation or spillage?

No. It treats the entered flow, time, and recovery as the complete water balance. Add a planning margin separately if your operation routinely experiences additional losses.
