Enter each outcome's drop chance and assigned value. The calculator multiplies each probability by its value and adds the contributions to produce an expected value per reward opportunity. 1. Define the guild reward event
Choose one comparable reward opportunity, such as opening a contribution chest or resolving a guild milestone.

2. Price each listed reward
Assign every tier a common internal economy value so the weighted contributions can be added meaningfully.

3. Enter guild-specific drop chances
Use the probability for each reward tier from the same loot table or reward rule.

4. Inspect tier contributions
Compare how much each tier contributes to the average even when its raw drop chance is small.

5. Check whether outcomes overlap
If one chest can award multiple listed items, a probability total above 100% can be valid; otherwise keep mutually exclusive chances within 100%.

Expected value = (p1 × v1) + (p2 × v2) + (p3 × v3)

Each probability p is entered as a percentage and converted to a decimal before multiplication. Each v is the value assigned to that outcome in a consistent unit. When the outcomes are mutually exclusive, their probabilities should normally total no more than 100%; any remainder can represent no drop. If outcomes can occur independently, the sum may exceed 100%, but the interpretation changes to expected combined value rather than one mutually exclusive result.

What the result means

A higher expected value means the reward table releases more average value per opportunity under the entered probabilities and item values.

Treat the result as an economy-planning average. Actual player outcomes remain variable, especially when high-value rewards are rare.

Can I use this for a guild chest with several item slots?

Yes, if you treat independently rolled items as separate expected-value contributions. In that setup, listed probabilities can total above 100% because more than one reward can occur in the same chest.

Should contribution points and shop currency share one value scale?

Only if you have a defensible conversion between them. Otherwise convert both to a common internal economy basis before entering values.

How can this expose an overly generous guild reward?

Compare the expected value with the intended value budget per guild action or milestone. A rare premium item can materially raise the long-run average even when most players receive lower tiers.

Does expected value describe member satisfaction?

No. It measures average economic value, not perceived fairness, excitement, or social motivation. Those outcomes require separate behavioral analysis.

What if rewards depend on guild rank?

Run separate scenarios for each rank or reward table. Combining different rank-specific tables into one average can hide important differences between guild segments.
