Interpretation: Reaching the target requires the household annual footprint to fall by 4.05 tCO₂e, equivalent to a simple average reduction pace of 0.675 tCO₂e per year.

Is the annual reduction pace compounded?

No. The calculator spreads the total required reduction evenly across the selected years. A compounding percentage pathway will produce a different year-by-year trajectory.

Can I use a 100% reduction target?

Yes mathematically, which sets the target footprint to zero. In practice, whether a zero-emissions household footprint is feasible depends on the accounting boundary and available reduction measures.

Should offsets count toward the reduction target?

This calculator treats the target as a reduction in the measured household footprint. If you want to model offsets separately, use the household offset estimator after calculating residual emissions.

What if my household grows or shrinks?

The model uses the total household footprint, not a per-person target. If household size changes significantly, consider tracking both total and per-person emissions.

How often should I update the baseline?

For progress tracking, keep the original target baseline fixed and calculate each new annual footprint consistently. You can also establish a new baseline for a new planning cycle, but label it clearly.
