Actual performance can differ because demand, case mix, staffing, downtime, priorities, and local workflows vary.

Calculation:
Occupied time = 150 × 7 = 1,050 minutes = 17.5 hours. Available time = 3 × 8 × 60 = 1,440 minutes = 24 hours. Utilization = 1,050 ÷ 1,440 × 100 = 72.92%.

Result:
72.92% room utilization.

Interpretation: About 73% of the entered staffed room time is occupied by patient encounters under these average-time assumptions.

Does this measure analyzer utilization?

Not directly. It measures occupancy of rooms or service stations. Analyzer utilization should use analyzer available time and analyzer busy time instead.

What should count as room time?

Count the minutes the room is unavailable to another patient because of the encounter, using a consistent definition across periods.

Can utilization exceed 100%?

Yes mathematically, but that means occupied minutes exceed available minutes. Check whether hours, room count, or average room time are inconsistent with the volume.

Should cleaning time be included?

Include it in average room time if the room cannot serve the next patient until cleaning is complete. Otherwise keep it separate.

Is a specific utilization percentage recommended?

This calculator does not set a target. Appropriate operating ranges depend on local demand variability, service design, safety requirements, and the need for surge capacity.
