Productivity Score Estimator

The Productivity Score Estimator converts planned work, completed work, focused time, and quality into a single 0–100 score. It is designed for personal reviews, team check-ins, or repeated work sessions where raw output alone does not show whether the work was efficient and usable.

The score is a structured comparison rather than a universal standard. Tracking the same inputs over time can reveal whether completion, focus, or quality is the main constraint, while avoiding the false precision of comparing unrelated jobs with one benchmark.

1. Define the planned workload

Enter the number of comparable tasks you expected to complete during the review period.

2. Record completed output

Count tasks finished to the agreed definition of done, not items merely started.

3. Separate work time from focus time

Total work time includes the full session; focus time should exclude meetings, interruptions, and unrelated activity.

4. Rate usable quality

Use a consistent 0–100 rating based on accuracy, rework, or acceptance criteria.

5. Compare the components

Review completion, focus, and quality separately before relying on the combined score.

Where:

  • Completion score — share of planned tasks completed, capped at 100
  • Focus score — share of work time spent in focused activity, capped at 100
  • Quality — user-entered rating from 0 to 100

Assumptions: The weighting favors completed output while still accounting for attention and quality. It is most useful when the same scoring method is applied repeatedly.

Given:

  • Planned tasks: 14
  • Completed tasks: 11
  • Total work time: 8 hours
  • Focused work time: 6 hours
  • Quality rating: 88%

Calculation:
Completion = 11 ÷ 14 × 100 = 78.57. Focus = 6 ÷ 8 × 100 = 75.00. Score = 78.57 × 0.45 + 75 × 0.30 + 88 × 0.25 = 79.86.

Result: 79.9 out of 100

Interpretation: The period was solid overall; the component scores show that completion rate, rather than quality, had the largest drag.

Is 100 always the best target?

Not necessarily. The score depends on realistic planning and consistent quality ratings. Repeatedly scoring 100 may indicate that planned workload is too conservative.

Can tasks of very different sizes be combined?

They can, but the result becomes less informative. Use comparable task units or divide large tasks into consistent milestones.

Why is completion capped at 100?

Finishing more than planned should not erase weak focus or quality. Extra output is visible in the raw counts but does not push the component above 100.

Can this score compare two employees?

Only when their tasks, rating rules, and work conditions are comparable. It is safer as a trend measure for the same person or process.

What should be changed when focus is low?

Review interruptions, meeting load, task switching, and environment first. The score identifies a pattern but does not diagnose its cause.
