Semester Attendance Calculator

The Semester Attendance Calculator measures current attendance and projects the final attendance rate after future classes. It uses classes held, classes attended, classes remaining, and the number of remaining classes you expect to attend.

This is useful for checking progress toward an attendance requirement or understanding how future absences may affect the final percentage. Always compare the estimate with the institution’s policy, especially when excused absences or partial attendance are treated differently.

1. Enter classes held
Count all class meetings included in attendance records so far.

2. Enter classes attended
Use the number credited as attended.

3. Add remaining classes
Enter expected class meetings left in the semester.

4. Plan future attendance
Enter how many remaining meetings you expect to attend.

5. Review the projection
Compare current and projected final percentages with your policy threshold.

Current attendance = Classes attended ÷ Classes held × 100 Projected final attendance = (Attended so far + Future attended) ÷ (Held so far + Remaining) × 100

The model counts every class equally and does not distinguish excused absences.

What the result means

The result is the attendance percentage expected at the end of the semester under the future-attendance plan.

Results are planning estimates based on the values entered and may differ from school-specific grading or attendance policies.

Given: 32 classes held, 29 attended, 16 remaining, and attendance at 15 of the remaining classes.

Calculation: Final attended = 29 + 15 = 44. Final classes = 32 + 16 = 48. Final attendance = 44 ÷ 48 × 100 = 91.67%.

Result: Projected final attendance is 91.7%.

How are excused absences handled?

The calculator does not treat them differently. Adjust the counts to match how your school records them.

What if no classes have been held yet?

The current rate is unavailable, but a projection can still be calculated from remaining classes.

Can partial attendance be entered?

Inputs are whole-class counts. For weighted sessions, convert the policy into equivalent class units outside the calculator.

Why can one absence change the rate more early in the semester?

When the class count is small, each meeting represents a larger share of the total.

Does meeting an attendance percentage guarantee course credit?

No. Institutions may also apply rules about consecutive absences, labs, or specific required sessions.
