Which charges should I include?
Include the charges that belong to the cost scope you are analyzing. If you compare alternatives, use the same charge categories for each one.
Can I use a currency other than U.S. dollars?
The page displays USD, so convert other currencies before entering them if you need a consistent dollar comparison.
What happens when the costs cover multiple shipments?
Enter the total costs for that group and the matching shipment count. The calculator divides the combined cost evenly to produce an average per shipment.
Is this the same as cost per kilogram, ton, or container?
No. This tool normalizes by shipment count. A weight-, volume-, or container-based unit cost uses a different denominator and can answer a different question.
Why track surcharge share separately?
It shows how much of the entered total comes from surcharges and accessorials. A rising share can help focus a cost review on charges beyond the base freight components.
