Baseball Pitching Training Load Calculator

This calculator creates a simple baseball pitching training-load index from throw count and perceived effort. It separates higher-intensity pitching throws from optional warm-up or lower-intensity throws so a bullpen, practice, or pitching session can be logged with more context than pitch count alone.

The output is an arbitrary-unit workload score, not an injury-risk threshold. Each group of throws is multiplied by its own RPE and then added. This can help maintain a consistent internal record across sessions, but it does not account for pitch type, velocity, mechanics, rest between pitches, mound versus flat-ground work, or individual tissue response.

1. Enter main pitching throws
Count the higher-intensity pitches or throws you want represented in the main workload block.

2. Rate main-throw effort
Use a 1–10 RPE that reflects the overall effort of those main throws.

3. Add warm-up or drill throws
Enter lower-intensity preparation or drill throws separately. Use zero throws if you do not want to include this block.

4. Rate the secondary block
Assign a separate RPE to the warm-up or drill throws so they do not automatically count the same as the main pitches.

5. Review total and components
The headline AU score is the sum of both count × RPE components. Keep the throw counts visible when comparing sessions.

The score uses arbitrary units. It assumes perceived effort can act as a simple multiplier for throw count, but it does not convert throws into a biological stress or injury probability.

What the result means

The result is a session-level tracking index that increases with more throws, higher perceived effort, or both. The component values show which block contributed most.

Pitch-count rules, return-to-throw programs, pain, and medical restrictions should be handled separately; this calculator does not replace them.

Interpretation
Most of the recorded load came from the main pitching block, while the lower-effort warm-up throws added a smaller contribution.

Should every warm-up throw be counted?

Use a consistent logging rule. The calculator lets you include warm-up or drill throws separately so they can receive a lower effort multiplier rather than being treated exactly like main pitches.

Is this the same as an official pitch-count limit?

No. It is a custom session-load index and does not establish eligibility, youth pitching limits, or medical restrictions.

Can I use velocity instead of RPE?

Not in this version. Velocity and RPE describe different aspects of the session, and the implemented formula specifically uses perceived effort as the multiplier.

What if there are no warm-up or drill throws to include?

Enter 0 for the secondary throw count. Its load contribution will be zero, and the total will come only from the main pitching block.

Why does the same throw count produce different loads?

Because RPE changes the multiplier. Seventy throws at RPE 5 equal 350 AU, while seventy throws at RPE 9 equal 630 AU in this tracking model.
