The model does not decide how many recipients are inside each tier, so the results are tier totals rather than per-player payouts.

3. Set the remaining tier shares

Where:

  • Total Prize Pool = the full amount available to distribute.
  • Tier Share = percentage assigned to a placement tier.
  • Tier Amount = total value allocated to that tier, before dividing among recipients.

Assumptions: The three tier shares are applied directly to one fixed pool, and no fees, taxes, or per-recipient splits are deducted.

What the result means

The three modeled tiers use 90% of the pool, leaving 1,800 points, or 10%, unallocated.

If a tier contains multiple recipients, apply your separate within-tier payout rule after calculating the tier total.

Given:

  • Total prize pool: 18,000 points
  • Tier 1 share: 45%
  • Tier 2 share: 30%
  • Tier 3 share: 15%

Calculation:

Tier 1 = 18,000 × 0.45 = 8,100

Tier 2 = 18,000 × 0.30 = 5,400

Tier 3 = 18,000 × 0.15 = 2,700

Allocated = 8,100 + 5,400 + 2,700 = 16,200

Unallocated = 18,000 − 16,200 = 1,800

Result: Tier 1 receives 8,100 points.

Interpretation: The three modeled tiers use 90% of the pool, leaving 1,800 points, or 10%, unallocated.

Why is there an unallocated amount?

The tier shares are allowed to total less than 100%. The remaining portion can represent a reserve, future rollover, participation rewards, or any value not assigned to the three modeled tiers.

Can I use points instead of money?

Yes. The pool can be any consistent value unit, including points, credits, tokens, or currency. The calculator does not apply a currency symbol.

Does the result show each winner’s payout?

No. It shows the total amount assigned to each tier. If a tier has multiple recipients, divide that tier amount by the number of recipients or use a separate payout rule.

What if my tier percentages total more than 100%?

The calculator flags the input because the allocations would exceed the available pool. Reduce one or more tier shares until the total is 100% or less.

How is a tier split different from an equal split?

A tier split applies different percentages to placement groups. An equal split divides the available amount evenly among a known number of recipients.
