Diet Protein Calculator

This calculator estimates a daily protein target by multiplying body weight by a selected grams-per-kilogram factor. Presets cover general maintenance, regular training, and higher-target planning, while a custom option allows another factor.

The output also divides the daily amount across meals. It is a planning aid rather than a medical recommendation, especially for people with kidney disease, pregnancy, or other conditions affecting nutrition needs.

1. Enter body weight

Use kilograms.

2. Choose a protein factor

Select a preset that matches your planning purpose.

3. Set a custom factor if needed

The custom field is used only when Custom is selected.

4. Enter meals per day

5. Review daily and per-meal amounts

Use the daily target as the main planning number.

6. Consider individual context

Daily protein (g) = body weight (kg) × protein factor (g/kg)
Protein per meal = daily protein ÷ meals
Protein calories = daily protein × 4 kcal/g

What the result means

The main result is the daily protein grams produced by the selected body-weight factor.

A grams-per-kilogram factor is a planning convention. Total energy intake, protein quality, meal pattern, training, age, and health can influence an appropriate target.

Given: 75 kg, 1.6 g/kg, and 4 meals.

Calculation: Daily protein = 75 × 1.6 = 120 g. Protein per meal = 120 ÷ 4 = 30 g. Protein calories = 120 × 4 = 480 kcal.

Result: 120 g protein per day, averaging 30 g per meal.

What does grams per kilogram mean?

It expresses protein relative to body weight. A factor of 1.6 g/kg gives 1.6 grams of protein for each kilogram of body weight.

Should I use current or goal weight?

Current weight is the straightforward input. In some situations, a clinician or dietitian may use adjusted, ideal, or goal weight instead.

Does protein need to be divided equally across meals?

No. Equal division is only a planning reference. The daily total and practical meal pattern may matter more than exact equality.

Are all protein sources equivalent?

Sources differ in amino-acid profile, digestibility, food quality, cost, and dietary fit. The calculator counts grams and does not score source quality.

Who should avoid using a high protein target without guidance?

People with kidney disease or other conditions affecting protein handling should seek individualized medical nutrition advice before making major changes.
