eBay Refund Calculator

The eBay Refund Calculator estimates the amount returned to a buyer and the seller's net loss after recoverable fees, retained restocking amounts, returned-item value, and seller-paid return shipping. It supports full or partial item refunds and a separately refundable shipping amount.

Use it to document a refund scenario before issuing it or to review the economic impact afterward. Actual marketplace handling, tax adjustments, and fee credits depend on transaction details, so enter the recoverable amounts shown in your records rather than relying on a fixed rule.

Item refund = Item amount paid × Refund percentage Refund sent = Item refund + Shipping refunded − Amount retained Estimated seller net loss = max(0, Refund sent + Return shipping − Fee recovery − Returned-item value)

The seller-loss calculation treats fee credits and returned inventory value as recoveries. It does not model taxes, prior product cost accounting, or policy eligibility for deductions.

What the result means

The main result is the amount estimated to be sent back to the buyer.

Only use a retained amount when it is permitted by the applicable policy, law, and transaction circumstances.

Given: The buyer paid $120 for the item, receives a 100% item refund plus $12 shipping, no amount is retained, $14 in fees is recovered, returned inventory value is $55, and return shipping costs $6.25.

Calculation: Refund sent = $120 + $12 = $132. Seller net loss = $132 + $6.25 − $14 − $55 = $69.25.

Result: The buyer refund is $132.00 and estimated seller net loss after the entered recoveries is $69.25.

How do I calculate a partial refund?

Enter the percentage of the item amount being refunded. Shipping can be entered separately because it may follow a different decision.

What belongs in fee recovery?

Enter only fees actually credited or expected to be credited for the transaction. Do not assume every charge is recoverable.

Why subtract returned-item value from seller loss?

A sellable returned item remains an economic asset. Enter a conservative recoverable value after damage, testing, refurbishment, and resale risk.

Can the calculator determine whether a deduction is allowed?

No. Eligibility depends on marketplace policy, applicable law, and the transaction facts. The calculator only models amounts you enter.

How does this differ from the return calculator?

This tool models the refund payment and recoveries for a transaction. The return calculator measures return frequency and average operational cost across many orders.
