Email Performance Calculator

The Email Performance Calculator summarizes core campaign rates from observed counts. It calculates delivery, open, click-through, click-to-open, conversion, and unsubscribe rates from a single set of campaign results.

Use it after a send to standardize reporting or to verify metrics exported from different platforms. The calculator keeps denominators explicit: click-through and conversion rates are based on delivered emails, while click-to-open rate is based on opens. That prevents common reporting errors caused by comparing rates with different bases.

1. Enter send and delivery counts

Use final campaign counts after bounces are processed.

2. Add unique opens and clicks

Prefer unique user counts rather than total events so rates remain comparable.

3. Enter conversions

Use the campaign-attributed actions under your reporting rules.

4. Add unsubscribes

Count recipients who unsubscribed from this campaign.

5. Review the rates

Check each metric and its denominator before comparing it with another report.

6. Use the score cautiously

The composite score is a convenience summary, not an industry benchmark; the individual rates remain the primary outputs.

Delivery rate = Delivered ÷ Sent × 100
Open rate = Unique opens ÷ Delivered × 100
Click-through rate = Unique clicks ÷ Delivered × 100
Click-to-open rate = Unique clicks ÷ Unique opens × 100
Conversion rate = Conversions ÷ Delivered × 100
Unsubscribe rate = Unsubscribes ÷ Delivered × 100

The displayed performance score combines normalized versions of these rates for quick internal comparison. It is not a universal benchmark and should not replace the underlying metrics.

What the result means

The main result is a composite internal score, while the detailed rows show the campaign’s actual calculated rates.

Compare campaigns only when tracking definitions, audience type, and attribution windows are consistent.

Given

  • 75,000 sent
  • 73,500 delivered
  • 22,050 unique opens
  • 3,308 unique clicks
  • 215 conversions
  • 74 unsubscribes

Calculation

Delivery = 73,500 ÷ 75,000 = 98.00%. Open rate = 22,050 ÷ 73,500 = 30.00%. CTR = 3,308 ÷ 73,500 = 4.50%. CTOR = 3,308 ÷ 22,050 = 15.00%. Conversion rate = 215 ÷ 73,500 = 0.293%. Unsubscribe rate = 74 ÷ 73,500 = 0.101%.

Result

The detailed output shows 98.00% delivery, 30.00% opens, 4.50% CTR, 15.00% CTOR, 0.29% conversion, and 0.101% unsubscribes.

Interpretation

These rates provide a consistent post-send snapshot; interpretation should focus on campaign goals and comparable historical sends.

Why are clicks divided by delivered emails?

That produces a delivery-based click-through rate. The calculator separately reports click-to-open rate using opens as the denominator.

Should I enter total or unique opens?

Use unique opens and unique clicks for user-level rates. Total events measure repeat activity and produce different metrics.

What if opens are zero but clicks exist?

The click-to-open rate is shown as zero because it cannot be divided by zero. Review tracking because that pattern may reflect privacy or instrumentation issues.

Is the performance score a benchmark?

No. It is an internal composite for quick comparison. Use the individual rates and your own historical baselines for decisions.

Can conversions exceed clicks?

They can under view-through, assisted, or multi-device attribution. This calculator allows conversions up to deliveries and reports a delivery-based conversion rate.
