Pace (seconds/km) = Total time (seconds) ÷ Distance (km)
Speed (km/h) = Distance (km) ÷ Total time (hours)
Projected 5K time = Pace (seconds/km) × 5
What the result means
The main result is the average time required to cover one kilometer.
Average pace includes any stops contained in the elapsed time you enter.
Given: 5 km in 25 minutes.
Calculation: Total time = 1,500 seconds. Pace = 1,500 ÷ 5 = 300 seconds/km = 5:00 per km. Speed = 5 ÷ (25/60) = 12 km/h.
Result: Average pace is 5:00 per km and average speed is 12.0 km/h.
Should I enter moving time or elapsed time?
Use moving time for movement-only pace or elapsed time to include stops. Label comparisons consistently.
Can I enter miles?
This version uses kilometers. Convert miles to kilometers before entering distance.
Why is the 5K projection not a race prediction?
It simply extends the same average pace. It does not account for fatigue, terrain, or race strategy.
What happens if time is zero?
The calculator cannot divide by zero and will ask you to enter a positive total time.
How is pace different from speed?
Pace is time per unit distance, while speed is distance per unit time. Faster movement means a lower pace value but a higher speed value.
