Sleep duration = cycle length × number of cycles

What the result means

The main result is the clock time produced by the selected direction and assumptions.

Adults commonly differ in sleep need, cycle timing, and sleep latency. Persistent sleep problems warrant discussion with a qualified health professional.

Given: Wake time 7:00 AM, 90-minute cycles, 5 cycles, and 15 minutes to fall asleep.

Calculation: Sleep duration = 90 × 5 = 450 minutes (7 hours 30 minutes). Time in bed = 450 + 15 = 465 minutes. 7:00 AM − 7 hours 45 minutes = 11:15 PM.

Result: Suggested bedtime: 11:15 PM.

Are sleep cycles always 90 minutes?

No. Ninety minutes is a convenient average used for planning, while actual cycles vary by person and across the night.

Does the bedtime result include time to fall asleep?

Yes. Sleep latency is added to the required time in bed when calculating bedtime.

What happens when the result crosses midnight?

The calculator wraps the time into a 24-hour clock. A bedtime may therefore appear on the previous calendar day.

How many cycles should I choose?

Choose a count that produces a realistic sleep duration for your needs and schedule. The tool does not determine an individual medical sleep requirement.

Is waking at a cycle boundary guaranteed to feel easier?

No. The timing is only an estimate, and waking experience also depends on sleep debt, disruptions, circadian timing, and health factors.
