Greenhouse Heating Nutrient Rate Estimator

The Greenhouse Heating Nutrient Rate Estimator calculates the total nutrient product needed over a greenhouse feeding period from cropped area, a target application rate, number of weeks, and application efficiency. It is useful when turning a crop nutrition program expressed as grams per square meter per week into a purchasing or batch-planning quantity.

Because greenhouse fertilizer programs can be specified in many ways, this page uses a deliberately simple area-and-time model rather than claiming a universal crop recommendation. The target rate is an input supplied by the grower, consultant, recipe, or product label. Application efficiency accounts for the fact that the amount prepared may need to exceed the amount effectively delivered to the crop. The calculator therefore helps scale an existing rate to a greenhouse block; it does not determine the agronomically correct nutrient recipe for a specific crop.

What the result means

The result is the amount of nutrient product to prepare for the selected area and feeding period after the entered efficiency allowance.

The calculator scales a user-supplied rate. It does not establish crop nutrient requirements, solution EC, or individual element concentrations.

Given: 320 m², 16 g/m²/week, 12 weeks, and 92% application efficiency.

Calculation: Delivered mass = 320 × 16 × 12 = 61,440 g. Prepared mass = 61,440 ÷ 0.92 = 66,782.6 g. Allowance = 5,342.6 g.

Result: Prepare about 66.78 kg for the 12-week period.

This corresponds to about 5.57 kg per week under the same assumptions.

Is the target rate a fertilizer recommendation?

No. The rate is an input you provide from an appropriate crop program, agronomist, or product instructions. This calculator only scales that rate by area and time.

What does application efficiency mean here?

It is the fraction of prepared nutrient product assumed to reach the intended application. At 90% efficiency, the calculator divides the target delivered mass by 0.90.

Can I enter a liquid fertilizer rate?

Only after converting it to an equivalent mass rate in grams per square meter per week. The calculator does not convert product density or liquid concentration automatically.

What happens if I use 100% efficiency?

Prepared mass equals delivered mass, so no additional allowance is added.

How does this differ from a hydroponic nutrient rate estimator?

This page scales an area-based greenhouse application rate. A hydroponic nutrient calculation commonly starts from solution volume and target concentration instead.
