The Guild Management Retention Forecast Estimator projects how many players from a starting cohort remain after repeated periods when the same retention rate is applied each period. It gives guild-system designers and community operations teams a transparent baseline for members who engage with guild systems without requiring a full survival model.

Enter the starting cohort, the expected retention percentage per period, and the number of periods to forecast. The calculator compounds retention rather than subtracting the same number of players each time, so every period is based on the survivors from the prior period. In addition to the projected retained count, it reports projected churned players, the cumulative retained percentage, and the implied churn rate. This makes the tool useful for scenario comparison and rough capacity or engagement planning, while keeping the simplifying constant-retention assumption visible.

1. Set the guild-member starting cohort
Count members active at the beginning of the forecast window using a consistent activity definition.

2. Use guild-member retention
Enter the measured share that remains active from one period to the next for the same type of members.

3. Choose equal forecast periods
Use weeks, months, or another interval that exactly matches how the retention rate was measured.

4. Review surviving members
The main result projects how many original members remain after compounding the rate.

5. Separate retention from recruitment
Treat new guild joins and reactivations outside this baseline so you can distinguish survival of the original cohort from membership growth.

r is the retention rate per period expressed as a decimal, and n is the number of equal forecast periods. Projected churned players equals the starting cohort minus retained players. The model assumes the same retention probability in every period and does not separately model reactivation, new players, seasonality, or cohort aging.

What the result means

The result is the number of players expected to remain from the original cohort after compounding the same retention rate for the selected number of periods.

This is a constant-rate baseline. Observed retention curves commonly change with cohort age, content cadence, reactivation, and seasonality.

Should new guild recruits be added to the starting cohort each period?

Not in this calculator. It follows survival of one original cohort; recruitment should be modeled separately if you want total future guild population.

Can I use member login retention or guild-action retention?

Either can work, but define the metric consistently. Guild-action retention is narrower and may be more relevant when evaluating guild-system engagement.

Why might real guild retention fall slower than this forecast?

Social ties, leadership, events, and reactivation can change retention over time. A single constant rate cannot capture those cohort dynamics.

What does 0% retention do?

The forecast drops the original cohort to zero after the first modeled period. This is mathematically valid but usually indicates an extreme scenario or a mismatched input definition.

How can this help guild capacity planning?

It provides one estimate of the surviving original population. Add recruitment, concurrency, event peaks, and regional distribution before turning that number into infrastructure or moderation capacity.
