Home Subscription Calculator

The Home Subscription Calculator totals household subscriptions and shows their monthly, annual, and per-person cost. It is useful for reviewing streaming services, software, memberships, delivery plans, monitoring services, and other recurring charges that can become difficult to track across billing cycles.

Enter monthly equivalents for each category. The cost-per-use result can help identify subscriptions that are expensive relative to actual use, but it does not measure the personal value or benefits of a service.

1. Convert every plan to a monthly amount
Divide annual plans by 12 and multiply weekly plans by 52 ÷ 12.

2. Group subscription charges
Place each recurring plan in the closest household category.

3. Enter monthly uses
Count meaningful household uses across the listed subscriptions if you want a cost-per-use estimate.

4. Enter people benefiting
Use the number of household members who regularly receive value from the plans.

5. Review annual and unit costs
Look for categories or subscriptions that warrant cancellation, sharing, or renegotiation.

Monthly subscription cost = Streaming + Software + Memberships + Delivery plans + Other subscriptions

Annual subscription cost = Monthly subscription cost × 12

Monthly cost per person = Monthly subscription cost ÷ People benefiting

Average cost per use = Monthly subscription cost ÷ Monthly uses

What the result means

The main result is the combined monthly equivalent of all entered household subscriptions.

Cost per use is available only when monthly uses are greater than zero.

Given:
- Streaming: $65
- Software: $35
- Memberships: $50
- Delivery plans: $25
- Other: $20
- 40 uses and 3 people

Calculation:
Monthly total = 65 + 35 + 50 + 25 + 20 = $195
Annual total = 195 × 12 = $2,340
Per person = 195 ÷ 3 = $65
Per use = 195 ÷ 40 = $4.88

Result: The household spends $195 per month, or $2,340 per year, on subscriptions.

How should I enter an annual membership?

Divide its annual price by 12 and enter the monthly equivalent.

Should free trials be included?

Include them only when they are expected to convert to paid plans during the budget period.

What counts as a use?

Choose a consistent definition, such as one viewing session, delivery, workout visit, or active software session.

Can shared family plans be entered once?

Yes. Enter the full household charge once and use the people field for the per-person view.

Does a high cost per use mean I should cancel?

Not automatically. Cost per use is one indicator; convenience, access, quality, and alternatives may also matter.
