Takt time is demand-driven rather than machine-driven. It does not tell you the actual molding cycle, but it creates a target pace that can be compared with effective cycle time after considering cavities and other production realities. 1. Determine available production time
Enter the minutes actually available to make the required parts after removing breaks or planned non-production time you do not want counted.

Relate takt time to your effective seconds per part, accounting for cavities if one shot makes multiple parts.

Takt time = Available production time ÷ Required good-part demand

When time is entered in minutes, the calculator multiplies by 60 to report seconds per part.

What the result means

A lower takt time means the process must supply parts at a faster pace to satisfy demand within the available time.

Takt time is a demand target, not an estimate of actual machine cycle time. Compare it with effective production capability before making a capacity commitment.

Given: 450 available production minutes and demand for 1,350 good parts.

Calculation: Available seconds = 450 × 60 = 27,000. Takt time = 27,000 ÷ 1,350 = 20 seconds/part. Required rate = 180 parts/hour.

Result: 20 seconds per good part.

The molding operation must average at least one good part every 20 seconds across the available window to meet demand.

Should planned breaks be included in available time?

Usually takt calculations use net available production time, so planned non-production periods are removed. The important point is to use the same definition consistently.

How do multiple cavities affect the comparison with cycle time?

Convert mold cycle time to an effective seconds-per-part value by dividing by the number of usable parts produced per shot, then compare that pace with takt time.

What if demand is zero?

Takt time is undefined when there is no required demand, so the calculator requires a demand greater than zero.

Is takt time the same as target cycle time?

Not necessarily. Takt time comes from demand; a target cycle time may include a deliberate capacity margin or other operating assumptions.

Can this be used for a weekly demand plan?

Yes. Enter the net production minutes available for the week and the required good-part quantity for that same week.
