The Monthly Body Fat Calculator summarizes an estimated body-fat percentage together with average body weight. It calculates estimated fat mass and lean mass, and it can project a simple end-of-period percentage from a starting percentage and a monthly percentage-point change. Body-fat measurements from scales, calipers, tape methods, scans, and laboratory techniques are not interchangeable and each has uncertainty. Use the same method and similar conditions for trend tracking; this calculator does not diagnose health status.

Projected body fat % = Starting body fat % + Percentage-point change

Starting fat mass = Weight × Starting body fat % ÷ 100. Starting lean mass = Weight − Starting fat mass. The projection changes percentage only; it does not independently predict future weight or tissue mass.

What the result means

The main result is a percentage-point projection based on the entered starting estimate and expected change.

A change from 22% to 21% is a decrease of 1 percentage point, not a 1% relative decrease.

Given: 180 lb, 22% starting body fat, and −1 percentage point.

Calculation: Projected percentage = 22 − 1 = 21%. Starting fat mass = 180 × 0.22 = 39.6 lb. Starting lean mass = 180 − 39.6 = 140.4 lb.

Result: Projected body fat is 21%, with starting estimates of 39.6 lb fat mass and 140.4 lb lean mass.

Is a percentage point the same as one percent?

No. Moving from 22% to 21% is a one-percentage-point decrease, which is about a 4.5% relative decrease from 22%.

Why does the calculator use average weight?

Body weight fluctuates. A representative average can reduce the influence of a single unusually high or low reading.

Can this predict future fat mass?

Not by itself. Future fat mass also depends on future body weight, which this model does not project.

Why might two devices give different percentages?

Methods use different assumptions and are affected by hydration, device quality, technique, and measurement conditions.

Is body-fat percentage a medical diagnosis?

No. It is one estimated body-composition measure and should not replace clinical evaluation.
