Pet Boarding Dose Schedule Planner

The Pet Boarding Dose Schedule Planner counts medication administration times that fall within a boarding stay using a schedule that has already been prescribed for the pet. It is designed for owners and boarding staff who need a simple handoff check: how many scheduled administrations occur while the pet is in care, when the first one is due, and the approximate spacing between recurring times.

The planner does not choose a medicine, determine a dose, or change veterinary instructions. It only turns an existing frequency and timing plan into an operational count for the stay. FDA guidance emphasizes following veterinarian directions for animal medications; if an administration is missed, delayed, or unclear, contact the prescribing veterinarian rather than changing the schedule with this tool.

Last scheduled offset

1. Enter the number of pets
Use the number of boarded pets that share this same prescribed timing pattern.

2. Set the stay length
Enter the total hours from check-in to check-out.

3. Enter the prescribed frequency
Use the administration frequency exactly as provided by the veterinarian or medication label.

4. Set the first due time
Enter how many hours after check-in the first scheduled administration is due.

5. Review the schedule count
Use the result as a staffing and handoff aid; do not use it to alter a prescribed regimen.

Interval (hours) = 24 ÷ administrations per day
Schedule times per pet = 0 if first due time > stay length; otherwise floor((stay length − first due time) ÷ interval) + 1
Total administrations = schedule times per pet × pets

Interval — Approximate hours between recurring administrations.

Stay length — Total boarding duration in hours.

First due time — Hours after check-in until the first administration.

Pets — Number of pets following the same schedule.

Assumptions: The calculation assumes evenly spaced recurring times. Actual medication instructions may specify clock times, food requirements, dose windows, or other conditions that take priority.

What the result means

The main result summarizes total administrations during stay using the values entered above.

This is an operational scheduling aid, not veterinary dosing advice. Follow the veterinarian’s written directions and the medication label.

Given:

• 2 pets
• 72-hour boarding stay
• 2 prescribed administrations per day
• First administration 4 hours after check-in

Calculation:

Interval = 24 ÷ 2 = 12 hours
Schedule times per pet = floor((72 − 4) ÷ 12) + 1 = 6
Total administrations = 6 × 2 = 12

Result: 12 scheduled administrations

Six recurring administration times fall within the stay for each pet. Staff should still follow the actual written veterinary directions and handoff notes.

Does this planner tell me how much medication to give?

No. It only counts timing events from a regimen you enter. The dose, route, medicine, and clinical instructions must come from the veterinarian or approved label.

What should I enter for administrations per day?

Enter the prescribed frequency, such as 1 for once daily or 2 for twice daily. Do not convert an “as needed” instruction into a fixed frequency unless the veterinarian has provided a specific schedule.

What if the first dose is due after checkout?

The planner returns zero scheduled administrations for the stay. That means no recurring event generated by these inputs falls before the entered boarding duration ends.

Can boarding staff shift a dose to fit staffing hours?

This calculator cannot determine whether a timing change is safe. If the prescribed time cannot be followed, the owner or facility should contact the prescribing veterinarian for instructions.

Why is the interval shown as approximate?

The tool assumes even spacing by dividing 24 hours by the entered daily frequency. A real prescription may use specific clock times or unequal intervals, so written directions override the estimate.
