Calculation:

Staffing limit = 7 × 8 = 56 pets
Raw capacity = min(60, 56) = 56 pets
Planned capacity = floor(56 × 0.85) = 47 pets
Unused buffer = 56 − 47 = 9 pets

Result: 47 pets

Staffing is the binding raw constraint, and the utilization setting preserves a nine-pet buffer below that limit.

Why not simply use the facility’s posted capacity?

A posted or physical maximum may not reflect the staff available on a specific shift. This calculator uses the lower of space and staffing assumptions before applying the booking buffer.

Can I use different pets-per-staff values for different rooms?

This page uses one blended value. For materially different groups or rooms, run separate scenarios and combine them only if staffing and space are not shared in a way that causes double-counting.

What does planned utilization represent?

It is the share of the raw capacity you intend to book. Setting it below 100% can preserve flexibility for absences, separations, room changes, or operational variability.

Does the result account for local daycare regulations?

No. Any licensing, zoning, building, animal-welfare, or staffing requirements must be checked independently and override this planning estimate.

How can I use the result with a cost model?

Use a realistic attendance level at or below capacity when estimating annual pet-days or break-even pricing. Capacity is a ceiling; actual demand may be lower.
