The Soccer Training Training Load Calculator estimates weekly soccer workload with the session-RPE method. It combines the number of training sessions, average session duration, average perceived exertion, and an optional match load so players and staff can summarize a mixed week in one arbitrary-unit total. The repeated word “Training” is retained from the source title, but the underlying calculation is a straightforward training-load model.

This method is practical when GPS data are unavailable or when you want one metric that works across tactical practice, small-sided games, conditioning, and full-team sessions. The result is not a readiness diagnosis and does not define an ideal weekly load. Its strongest use is consistent monitoring: compare weeks for the same player, note sharp changes, and review the load together with recovery, minutes played, and coaching intent.

The calculator applies session RPE separately to training and matches:

Training load = Training sessions × Training minutes × Training RPE Match load = Matches × Match minutes × Match RPE Total weekly load = Training load + Match load

All outputs are arbitrary units (AU). The model assumes the entered averages reasonably represent the week.

What the result means

Total weekly load summarizes the duration and perceived intensity of both training sessions and match exposure.

AU values are individual tracking metrics, not universal targets. GPS-derived external load, injury history, travel, and recovery can add important context.

Given: 5 training sessions × 80 minutes at RPE 6, plus 1 match × 90 minutes at RPE 8.

Calculation: Training load = 5 × 80 × 6 = 2,400 AU. Match load = 1 × 90 × 8 = 720 AU. Total = 3,120 AU.

Result: 3,120 AU across 490 active minutes.

Why include matches separately?

Matches often differ from training in duration and perceived intensity. Separating them makes it easier to see how much of the weekly total came from competition.

What is session RPE?

It is a 1–10 rating of how hard the entire session felt. Multiplying it by minutes creates a simple internal-load measure.

Can I enter zero matches?

Yes. Set the matches field to zero and the match-load contribution becomes zero, while training load is still calculated normally.

What if training sessions vary a lot?

Calculate each session separately and sum the AU values for better accuracy. Using averages is a convenient shortcut for similar sessions.

Is a higher weekly load always better?

No. More AU only means more combined time and perceived intensity. Appropriate load depends on the phase of training, match congestion, recovery, and the player.
