A score of 100 means your pace matches the benchmark, values above 100 indicate a faster pace, and values below 100 indicate a slower pace. Because the benchmark is user-defined, the score is not an official swimming ranking or federation standard. It is simply a consistent ratio that makes pace differences easier to interpret. Because faster swimming has a lower time per 100 meters, the benchmark time is divided by the swimmer time. A score above 100 therefore corresponds to a faster pace than the benchmark.

What the result means

The score expresses your pace as a percentage-like index relative to the benchmark, with 100 as the matching point.

This is a custom comparison score, not an official ranking system. Pool length, turns, stroke, and timing method can affect pace.

Given:
Your pace = 1:36 per 100 m; benchmark = 1:40 per 100 m.

Calculation:
Your pace = 96 s; benchmark = 100 s. Score = 100 × 100 ÷ 96 = 104.17. Pace difference = 96 − 100 = −4 s.

Result:
Performance score = 104.2.

Interpretation:
The swimmer is 4 seconds per 100 meters faster than the benchmark, producing a score slightly above 104.

What does a score of 100 mean?

It means your entered pace exactly matches the benchmark pace. Scores above 100 are faster; scores below 100 are slower.

Can I use yards instead of meters?

Yes if both paces use the same distance basis, such as per 100 yards. The label says 100 meters, so for clean comparisons convert or use meters consistently.

Should the benchmark be a personal best?

It can be, but it does not have to be. A training target, race goal, or team reference can be more useful depending on the purpose.

Why does a lower pace time create a higher score?

In swimming, a lower number of seconds per 100 meters is faster. The formula is arranged so faster times produce higher scores.

Can I compare different strokes?
