The Tennis Rating Recovery Needs Estimator converts recent tennis workload, soreness, and sleep into an estimated recovery window. It uses weekly session-RPE load as the training-volume anchor, then increases the estimate when soreness is higher or average sleep falls below eight hours. This gives players a repeatable planning signal before another hard court session or match.
The calculator is especially useful during dense tournament weeks, preseason blocks, or periods with added fitness work. It does not predict an official tennis rating and it cannot determine medical readiness. Instead, it summarizes common recovery pressures in one number and labels the result as low, moderate, or high priority. Where do I get weekly tennis load?
You can estimate it with session RPE: multiply each session’s minutes by its 1–10 RPE and add the sessions for the week.
Why are matches counted separately?
Matches can add competitive and psychological demands that are not always captured by an average training-load entry. The model adds a modest adjustment per match.
Can good sleep reduce the estimate below the base level?
No. Sleep above eight hours does not subtract recovery time; it simply creates zero sleep shortfall in this model.
What if soreness is localized and sharp?
This calculator treats soreness as a general fatigue input and cannot assess injury. Sharp, worsening, or unusual pain should not be reduced to a recovery score.
How does this differ from the training-load calculator?
Training load quantifies recent work. This recovery estimator uses that load plus sleep, soreness, and match count to produce a recovery-time estimate.
