WooCommerce Fee Estimator

The WooCommerce Fee Estimator calculates payment and service charges for an order from adjustable percentage rates and fixed amounts. It can model a primary payment gateway, an additional platform or marketplace percentage, and a separate per-order service fee.

WooCommerce stores use many gateways, extensions, currencies, and commercial arrangements, so no single default rate applies to every store. Enter the rates from your active providers. The calculator reports total fees, net proceeds before product and fulfillment costs, and the effective fee rate on the customer payment.

Effective fee rate

1. Enter the fee base
Use the order amount on which your providers assess charges.

2. Add gateway charges
Enter the percentage and fixed amount from the payment provider.

3. Add other service charges
Use the second rate and fixed field for a marketplace, extension, currency, or service fee.

4. Allocate monthly costs
Divide a recurring monthly fee across expected monthly orders automatically.

5. Review net proceeds and effective rate
Compare the total fee burden across providers using the same order amount and order-volume assumptions.

Gateway fee = Order amount × Gateway rate + Gateway fixed fee
Allocated monthly fee = Monthly service fee ÷ Monthly orders
Total fees = Gateway fee + Additional fee + Allocated monthly fee + Reserve
Effective fee rate = Total fees ÷ Order amount × 100

Where:

  • Reserve: optional percentage allowance for refunds or chargebacks
  • Net proceeds: order amount minus modeled fees, before product and fulfillment costs
  • Monthly orders: volume used only to allocate recurring fees

Assumptions: All percentage charges are applied to the same entered order amount.

What the result means

Total fees combine the entered per-order percentages, fixed charges, monthly allocation, and optional reserve.

Provider terms can change; verify current rates and the exact fee base in your account.

Given:

  • Order amount: $100
  • Gateway: 2.9% + $0.30
  • Additional service rate: 1.0%
  • Additional fixed fee: $0
  • Monthly service fee: $25
  • Monthly orders: 250
  • Reserve rate: 0.5%

Calculation:
Gateway fee = 100 × 2.9% + 0.30 = $3.20. Additional fee = $1.00. Monthly allocation = 25 ÷ 250 = $0.10. Reserve = $0.50. Total = $4.80.

Result:
$4.80 estimated fees and $95.20 net proceeds.

Interpretation:
The combined burden equals 4.80% of the modeled order amount before product and shipping costs.

Is the monthly fee a transaction fee?

No. It is allocated across expected orders to make provider comparisons easier. Actual cash payment timing is monthly.

Should shipping and tax be included in the order amount?

Include only amounts on which the provider assesses percentage fees. Check the provider's current terms and statement calculations.

Can I use the reserve field for refunds?

Yes, as a planning allowance based on revenue. It is not a prediction of a specific refund or chargeback.

Why can the effective rate be high on small orders?

Fixed per-order and allocated monthly charges represent a larger share of a small transaction.

Does this include product cost?

No. It estimates service-related fees and net proceeds before cost of goods, shipping, labor, and other operating expenses.
