Airport Parking Cost Estimator

The Airport Parking Cost Estimator calculates a parking budget from the time between entry and exit. It applies an hourly rate up to a daily cap, subtracts an optional free grace period, and then adds taxes or booking fees after any discount.

This structure is useful for comparing on-airport garages, economy lots, and off-site facilities. Enter the posted terms carefully, since facilities may round time differently, charge by calendar day, or use special event and reservation prices.

1. Enter entry-to-exit duration
Include expected buffer time for check-in, baggage claim, and terminal transfers.

2. Enter hourly and daily rates
Use rates from the same parking product. The calculator applies whichever is lower for each partial day.

3. Add any grace period
Enter free minutes that are deducted before charges begin.

4. Apply a reservation discount
Use the percentage reduction shown for prebooking or membership.

5. Include taxes and fees
Add fixed booking, facility, or tax amounts not already included in the posted rate.

6. Review the effective daily cost
This figure helps compare lots with different rate structures and trip lengths.

Chargeable hours = max(0, Total hours − Grace minutes ÷ 60) Base charge = Full 24-hour periods × Daily cap + min(Remaining hours × Hourly rate, Daily cap) Discount = Base charge × Discount rate ÷ 100 Estimated cost = Base charge − Discount + Taxes/fees

The calculation treats each full 24-hour period at the daily cap and caps the remaining partial period. A facility charging by calendar day may produce a different result.

What the result means

The main result is the estimated parking bill after discount and fixed fees.

Confirm rounding rules, lost-ticket charges, oversized-vehicle rates, and reservation conditions with the parking operator.

Given: 86 hours, $6 hourly rate, $28 daily cap, 15-minute grace period, 10% discount, and $7.50 fees.

Calculation: Chargeable time = 86 − 0.25 = 85.75 hours. Full days = 3, remainder = 13.75 hours. Base = 3 × 28 + min(13.75 × 6, 28) = $112. Discount = $11.20. Total = 112 − 11.20 + 7.50 = $108.30.

Result: Estimated parking cost is $108.30.

Why does the calculator use 24-hour periods?

It models facilities that charge elapsed days. Lots charging by calendar day or entry date can differ.

What if there is no daily maximum?

Set a very high daily maximum so the hourly calculation remains lower, or calculate directly from hours and rate.

Should taxes be entered as a percentage?

This version accepts a fixed combined amount for taxes and booking fees.

How should I estimate parking duration?

Count from expected lot entry to expected exit, including airport processing and delay buffers.

Can I compare two parking lots?

Run the calculator separately for each lot using its own rates, discounts, and fees.
