Aquarium Dose Schedule Planner

The Aquarium Dose Schedule Planner converts an established product or treatment instruction into repeatable quantities for a specified tank volume and planning horizon. Enter the working water volume, the instructed dose per 10 gallons, the number of days between applications, and the number of days you want to plan. The calculator returns the amount per application, the number of planned applications, and the total quantity across the period.

This approach is useful for organizing conditioner, supplement, treatment, or other aquarium products when the appropriate dose and interval are already known. It intentionally does not decide what product to use or what concentration is safe. Always take the dosing amount and frequency from the relevant product label, veterinarian, aquatic specialist, or validated husbandry protocol, and account for actual water volume where displacement is meaningful.

1. Confirm the dosing instruction
Use a dose and interval from the relevant label or qualified care guidance; the calculator only scales and schedules that instruction.

2. Enter working water volume
Use the water volume the product instruction applies to, which may be lower than nominal tank capacity after displacement.

3. Enter dose per 10 gallons
Keep the amount in the same unit you want shown in the output.

4. Set interval and planning horizon
The first application is treated as day 0, then applications repeat at the entered interval while they still fall within the horizon.

5. Review quantity and application count
Use the total to prepare inventory and the last scheduled day to organize the maintenance calendar.

The first application is counted on day 0. A 30-day horizon therefore includes scheduled days 0 through 29; an application exactly on day 30 would fall outside that horizon.

What the result means

The main result is the total amount of product needed for all applications that fall inside the selected planning horizon.

Use this only with an independently established aquarium dosing instruction. It does not assess toxicity, interactions, species tolerance, or product suitability.

Given: 60 gallons, 5 units per 10 gallons, a 7-day interval, and a 30-day planning horizon.

Calculation: Quantity per application = (60 ÷ 10) × 5 = 30 units. Applications = floor((30 − 1) ÷ 7) + 1 = 5. Total quantity = 30 × 5 = 150 units. Last scheduled day = (5 − 1) × 7 = day 28.

Result: The plan contains 5 applications totaling 150 units, with the final one on day 28.

Does this planner determine a safe aquarium dose?

No. The dose per 10 gallons and the interval are user inputs. Obtain those values from an appropriate product label or qualified aquarium-care source for the specific product and livestock involved.

Why does the first application count as day 0?

Treating the first event as day 0 makes interval arithmetic explicit. Subsequent applications occur after one interval, two intervals, and so on.

What if my tank’s actual water volume is lower than its labeled size?

Use the working water volume that the dosing instruction should be based on when you can estimate it. Substrate, rock, décor, and water level can reduce actual volume.

Can I plan a one-time dose?

Yes. Set a planning horizon short enough that no second application falls within it, or use an interval longer than the horizon.

Why might the total amount differ from what I actually use?

Real plans can change after water tests, livestock changes, partial water changes, treatment response, or label-specific instructions. Recalculate whenever the relevant input changes.
