Formula:

The allowance percentage is divided by 100 before multiplication. Truckloads are shown as a planning ratio and are not automatically rounded up because actual payloads can vary.

This calculation does not determine the correct allowance percentage; it only applies the value entered by the user.

What the result means

The adjusted quantity is the base asphalt tonnage plus the selected overage, with the extra tons shown separately.

Compare the selected allowance with actual yield records from similar paving work whenever those records are available.

Given: A paving takeoff requires 125 tons before overage, the estimator applies 5%, and typical truck payload is 20 tons.

Calculation:
Allowance = 125 × 0.05 = 6.25 tons
Adjusted quantity = 125 + 6.25 = 131.25 tons
Truckloads = 131.25 ÷ 20 = 6.5625 loads

Result: 131.25 tons total, including 6.25 tons of allowance; this is about 6.56 typical truckloads.

Actual dispatch would normally be coordinated using permitted payloads and the remaining field need.

Is waste allowance the same as compaction factor?

No. A waste or overage allowance is added to the calculated material quantity. Compaction and density are part of determining the underlying asphalt tonnage.

Should truckloads be rounded up?

The calculator leaves the result fractional so you can see the exact ratio. Ordering and dispatch decisions should account for actual truck payloads, supplier minimums, and the final partial load.

Can I use this for multiple asphalt lifts?

Yes, but it is usually clearer to calculate each lift separately when base quantities or expected overage differ.

What happens if I enter 0% allowance?

The adjusted quantity equals the base quantity, and the additional allowance is zero.
