Calculation:

What unit should I use for material quantity?

Is the waste rate the same as an order overage?

Not always. An order overage is extra material purchased to cover expected waste and uncertainty, while the waste rate describes the share that is expected not to become installed material.

Should packaging be included in the waste rate?

Include packaging only if your purchased-quantity unit and waste plan make that meaningful. For mixed waste streams, separate calculations usually provide clearer results.

What does the recovery rate represent?
