Basketball Efficiency Performance Score Estimator

This estimator calculates a box-score basketball efficiency value from positive contributions and common missed-opportunity statistics. It is intended for a quick single-game or single-period summary using points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, shooting attempts, and turnovers.

The calculation follows the traditional simple efficiency structure: made contributions add value, while missed field goals, missed free throws, and turnovers subtract value. Because this is not a pace-adjusted or possession-based metric, it should be used as a compact box-score summary rather than a complete measure of player impact.

1. Enter basic production
Add points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks from the same game or analysis period.

2. Enter shooting totals
Provide field goals made and attempted plus free throws made and attempted. Attempts cannot be lower than makes.

3. Enter turnovers
Use the turnover count from the same period as the other statistics.

4. Add minutes played
Minutes are used only for the per-minute context shown in the breakdown; they do not change the headline efficiency score.

5. Read the score in context
Compare similar roles, game lengths, and competition levels. The metric does not adjust for pace, usage, defense beyond steals/blocks, or lineup effects.

Efficiency = PTS + REB + AST + STL + BLK − (FGA − FGM) − (FTA − FTM) − TO

PTS is points, REB rebounds, AST assists, STL steals, BLK blocks, FGA field-goal attempts, FGM field goals made, FTA free-throw attempts, FTM free throws made, and TO turnovers. Missed shots are attempts minus makes.

This is a simple box-score efficiency model. It does not include possession value, offensive role, pace, opponent strength, screen assists, defensive positioning, or plus/minus context.

What the result means

A larger score means more counted positive box-score contributions after subtracting missed shots and turnovers. The value is descriptive, not a complete estimate of wins added or overall player value.

Use the same stat definitions and game length when comparing players or performances.

Interpretation
The player produced 28 net counted contributions under this box-score formula. This should be read alongside role, pace, matchup, and minutes.

Can the efficiency score be negative?

Yes. A performance with many missed shots and turnovers and few positive box-score contributions can produce a negative value.

Do three-pointers receive extra credit beyond points?

No. Their extra value is already reflected in the points total; the formula does not separately reward three-point makes.

Why are minutes not part of the main formula?

This traditional simple efficiency structure is a counting-stat total. The calculator reports efficiency per minute separately so you can add playing-time context.

Is this the same as PER?

No. Player Efficiency Rating (PER) is a different, more involved pace-adjusted metric. This calculator uses a much simpler box-score efficiency equation.

Can I compare players from different leagues?

You can calculate the number, but direct comparisons may be misleading because game length, pace, stat recording, competition, and roles can differ.
