Gross potential yield = Productive colonies × Yield per colony

All weight outputs use pounds because the yield-per-colony input is entered in pounds. The two percentage inputs are applied as decimal multipliers.

What the result means

The main result is the estimated total honey harvest after applying both the productive-colony rate and the expected harvest realization rate.

Actual honey yield can differ materially because nectar flow, weather, colony health, and local management are not captured by this simple forecast.

Should I use all hive boxes or only managed colonies?

Enter colonies, not individual hive boxes or supers. Each value should represent one managed colony in the production plan.

What is the harvest realization rate?

It is the share of gross potential honey you expect to actually remove and keep as saleable or usable harvest. It can reflect honey intentionally left for bees plus normal handling and extraction losses.

Can this estimate predict a poor nectar-flow year?

Only if you lower the yield-per-colony or realization assumptions to reflect that expectation. The calculator does not model rainfall, bloom timing, forage acreage, or weather directly.

Why can productive colonies be a decimal in the breakdown?

The value is an expected count used for forecasting, not a literal colony count. For example, 110.4 means the production plan is statistically equivalent to about 110 productive colonies at the entered rate.

How is this different from a feed conversion calculator?

A yield forecast estimates total production from colony and yield assumptions. A feed conversion calculation instead compares an input amount with an output amount to describe efficiency.
