The result is most meaningful when the completed quantity uses one consistent unit, such as square feet, linear feet, cubic yards, or installed pieces, and when the entered hours represent productive shift time for the same crew. Breaks, mobilization, waiting time, rework, and supervision can be included or excluded depending on the purpose of the analysis, but the same convention should be used when comparing periods.

Assumptions: The calculation treats every entered worker as contributing the full entered working time. If individual hours differ materially, use summed actual labor-hours instead of a simple crew-size average.

Use the result as a planning estimate based on the entered production, capacity, quantity, or loss assumptions.
Actual construction performance can vary with site conditions, sequencing, crew experience, equipment condition, weather, logistics, and the exact definition of the input data.
Given:
Completed work = 480 units
Crew size = 6 workers
Working time = 8 hours
Calculation: Total labor-hours = 6 × 8 = 48 labor-hours. Productivity = 480 ÷ 48 = 10 units per worker-hour. Crew-hour rate = 480 ÷ 8 = 60 units per crew-hour. Labor-hours per unit = 48 ÷ 480 = 0.10.
Result: 10 units per worker-hour.
At the recorded pace, each worker-hour corresponds to 10 completed units, while the full six-person crew produces 60 units per crew-hour.
What does a higher productivity result mean?
A higher units-per-worker-hour result means more measured output was completed for each labor-hour. It should be compared only with work of similar scope, quality requirements, site conditions, and quantity units.
Should breaks and delays be included in working time?
Include them if you want an all-in field productivity rate. Exclude them if you are measuring only direct productive time, but use the same rule for every period you compare.
Can crew members have different working hours?
This version assumes each worker has the same entered working time. If attendance varies, first total the actual labor-hours for all workers and use a method based on that summed figure.
Why is completed work required to be greater than zero?
Labor-hours per unit requires division by completed quantity. A zero quantity would make that measure undefined and usually indicates that the period should be tracked as delay or nonproductive time instead.
How is this different from a project timeline estimator?
Productivity measures the rate already achieved. A timeline estimator uses a productivity rate together with remaining quantity and available hours to forecast duration.
