Corporate Carbon Offset Requirements Estimator

This estimator calculates the quantity of carbon offsets needed after planned emissions reductions are applied to a corporate footprint. It helps teams separate the amount they expect to eliminate operationally from the residual emissions they may choose to address with offsets.

The result is a volume estimate in the same CO2e unit as the entered footprint. Because offset eligibility, quality criteria, claims, and retirement rules vary by program and purpose, the calculator does not determine whether a particular credit can be used; it only quantifies the residual amount under the assumptions entered.

One offset unit is treated as covering one unit of CO2e for arithmetic purposes. Eligibility and quality are outside the scope of this estimator.

Offset quantity alone does not determine credit quality, eligibility, or suitability for a particular claim.

Are offsets calculated before or after reductions?

This page applies the planned operational reduction first, then calculates offsets against the remaining emissions.

What does 50% offset coverage mean?

It means the estimator covers half of the residual emissions with offsets and leaves the other half shown as unoffset residual.

Does one credit always equal one tCO2e for every claim?

Credit programs commonly denominate units in tonnes of CO2e, but whether a credit is eligible or appropriate for a specific claim depends on the program and use case.

Can I use zero planned reduction?

Yes. In that case, the residual equals the current footprint and the offset requirement is based directly on the selected coverage.

Does the calculator assess offset quality?

No. It estimates quantity only. Project quality, additionality, permanence, verification, and claim rules require separate evaluation.
