Cruise Cost Estimator

The Cruise Cost Estimator expands the advertised cruise fare into a broader trip total. It adds port taxes and fees, daily gratuities, onboard spending, shore excursions, transport to the port, and pre- or post-cruise lodging.

The result separates cruise-line charges from surrounding travel costs so you can compare itineraries on a more consistent basis. Enter amounts from the actual booking terms, because inclusions, gratuity policies, and package prices vary widely.

1. Enter the fare and mandatory fees
Use the price per traveler and keep taxes or port fees separate when they are itemized.

2. Add daily gratuities
Enter the per-person daily charge and the number of cruise days.

3. Budget optional spending
Include expected onboard purchases and shore excursions per traveler.

4. Add port logistics
Enter group-level transport and hotel costs before or after the sailing.

5. Set traveler count and buffer
The calculator scales per-person costs and adds a contingency to the combined subtotal.

6. Compare the full cost
Use the per-traveler figure when comparing cruises with different inclusions or durations.

Per-traveler cruise cost = Fare + Taxes/fees + (Daily gratuity × Cruise days) + Onboard spending + Excursions Cruise subtotal = Per-traveler cruise cost × Travelers Trip subtotal = Cruise subtotal + Port travel/hotel Estimated total = Trip subtotal × (1 + Buffer rate ÷ 100)

The model treats port travel and lodging as one group-level amount. All other listed costs are per traveler.

What the result means

The main result is the estimated total for the sailing and related port travel after the contingency.

Optional beverage, internet, dining, insurance, and service packages should be included in onboard spending or fixed travel costs as appropriate.

Given: $1,200 fare, $180 taxes, $18 daily gratuity for 7 days, $300 onboard spending, $250 excursions, two travelers, $650 port travel/hotel, and 8% buffer.

Calculation: Per traveler = 1,200 + 180 + (18 × 7) + 300 + 250 = $2,056. Cruise subtotal = 2,056 × 2 = $4,112. Trip subtotal = 4,112 + 650 = $4,762. Total = 4,762 × 1.08 = $5,142.96.

Result: Estimated cruise trip cost is $5,142.96, or $2,571.48 per traveler.

Should the cruise fare include a cabin total or a per-person price?

Enter the fare per traveler. If you only have a cabin total, divide it by the number of travelers using that cabin.

How are gratuities calculated?

The daily amount is multiplied by cruise days and traveler count.

Where should a beverage package go?

Include it in onboard spending if the amount is per traveler, or add it to the fare input when you are using a bundled per-person price.

Can this compare cruises of different lengths?

Yes, but compare both the total and the per-traveler cost while considering what each fare includes.

Are flights to the port included?

Only if you include them in the group port travel/hotel amount.
