Total transit duration = Pre-clearance transport + Customs processing + Expected hold delay + Post-clearance delivery
Hold delay share (%) = Expected hold delay ÷ Total transit duration × 100
All four time inputs must use the same unit; this page uses days. The model is additive and intended for planning. Actual clearance time can vary with shipment details, documentation, inspections, carrier handling, weekends, and local procedures.
What the result means
The main result is the combined planning duration, in days, across the customs-related movement and processing stages you entered.
It does not guarantee a customs release date or represent a country-specific legal deadline.
Given: 1.5 days pre-clearance transport, 2.0 days customs processing, 0.5 day expected hold, and 1.0 day post-clearance delivery.
Calculation: 1.5 + 2.0 + 0.5 + 1.0 = 5.0 days. Core transport plus processing is 4.5 days. Hold share = 0.5 ÷ 5.0 × 100 = 10%.
Result: Estimated total duration = 5.0 days.
Interpretation: A five-day planning window covers the assumptions entered, with one-tenth of that time attributable to the expected hold allowance.
Should I enter business days or calendar days?
Use one convention consistently for every time field. If your operation plans in business days, convert all inputs to business days before entering them.
What should count as customs processing time?
Use the processing interval that fits your workflow, such as time from customs presentation to release. Keep carrier pickup or final-mile delivery in the separate transport fields.
Can I set the hold or inspection delay to zero?
Yes. Enter 0 when you want a base-case estimate with no extra hold allowance.
Why can actual transit be longer than the estimate?
Unexpected inspections, incomplete documents, carrier cutoffs, congestion, weekends, and local procedures can add time beyond the assumptions entered.
