What the result means

The result displays the entered resting pulse and estimates exercise zones using heart-rate reserve.

Medications and medical conditions can substantially alter heart-rate response.

Given: Age 35, resting heart rate 65 bpm.

Calculation: HRmax = 183.5; reserve = 118.5. Moderate zone = 124–148 bpm.

Result: Estimated moderate range about 124–148 bpm.

When should resting heart rate be measured?

Measure after several quiet minutes, ideally under similar conditions each day.

Why use heart-rate reserve?

It incorporates resting heart rate and can personalize intensity more than a percentage of maximum alone.

Are age formulas exact?

No. Individual maximum heart rate can differ meaningfully from the estimate.

Can medication affect the zones?

Yes. Beta blockers and other medications may change pulse response.

What symptoms require stopping exercise?

Chest pain, faintness, severe shortness of breath, or an unusual irregular heartbeat warrant stopping and seeking appropriate care.
