Domestic Mileage Calculator

The Domestic Mileage Calculator estimates total vehicle mileage, reimbursable mileage, and the monetary value of that mileage for a domestic trip. It combines route distance, round trips, local driving, and a user-entered reimbursement or cost rate per mile.

The tool is useful for work travel records, volunteer trips, event transportation, and personal trip budgeting. It does not determine which miles are tax-deductible or which rate an employer must use. Keep route records and apply the rate authorized for your specific purpose.

Mileage value = Eligible miles × Rate per mile

What the result means

The result is the value of the eligible mileage at the entered rate, not necessarily a tax deduction or guaranteed reimbursement.

Mileage rules and authorized rates vary by employer, organization, trip purpose, and date.

Given: 180 one-way miles, 1 round trip, 45 local miles, a $0.67 rate, and 100% eligible mileage.

Calculation: Total miles = 180 × 2 × 1 + 45 = 405 miles. Value = 405 × $0.67 = $271.35.

Result: Estimated mileage value is $271.35.

Is the mileage rate automatically updated?

No. Enter the rate that applies to your employer, organization, or planning purpose.

Should commuting miles be included?

Only if they are eligible under the rules you are following. The calculator does not classify mileage for you.

What does eligible mileage share mean?

It is the percentage of total miles to which the entered rate should be applied.

Can I use this for more than one round trip?

Yes. Increase the Round trips field and add any local mileage once.

Does mileage value equal actual fuel cost?

No. A mileage rate may represent fuel plus wear, maintenance, and other vehicle costs.
