Given:

Calculation:
Direct labor = 8 × 2.25 = 18.0 person-hours
Total labor = 18.0 + 3 = 21.0 person-hours
Crew duration = 21.0 ÷ 2 = 10.5 hours
8-hour crew days = 10.5 ÷ 8 = 1.31 days

Result: 21.0 person-hours, or about 10.5 clock hours for a two-person crew.

Interpretation: The project carries 21 hours of labor cost even though two installers can complete that workload in roughly 1.3 standard workdays if work proceeds continuously.

Why are person-hours different from elapsed hours?

Person-hours measure total labor effort. Elapsed hours divide that effort among the crew, so two workers can complete 20 person-hours in about 10 working hours if they can work efficiently in parallel.

What should I include in hours per door?

Include removal, fitting, fastening, hardware installation, basic trim work, and normal cleanup attributable to each door. Put project-wide staging or final cleanup in the separate setup field.

Should difficult doors use the same rate as simple doors?

No. Exterior doors, fire-rated assemblies, damaged jambs, and nonstandard openings often need more labor than straightforward interior replacements. Use a blended average only if it reasonably represents the mix.

Does a larger crew always shorten the project proportionally?

Not necessarily. The calculation assumes even workload sharing, but tight spaces, sequential tasks, and limited tools can reduce the benefit of adding workers.

Can I use this result to compare contractor quotes?

Yes, as a rough benchmark. Divide a labor quote by the estimated person-hours to see the implied labor cost per person-hour, while remembering that quotes may also include overhead, travel, supervision, and risk allowances.
