What the result means

The main result converts the active nutrient target into total commercial product weight for the entered grain lot.

Do not use the calculated quantity as a substitute for product labeling, feed regulations, or a qualified formulation recommendation.

Given: 50,000 lb grain, target 1.2 lb active/ton, product containing 30% active nutrient.

Calculation: Grain = 50,000 ÷ 2,000 = 25 tons. Active need = 25 × 1.2 = 30 lb. Product = 30 ÷ 0.30 = 100 lb.

Result: 100 lb of product is required to supply the entered active rate.

The target rate must come from an appropriate formulation or treatment specification rather than from the calculator.

Why is grain weight converted to tons first?

The target rate is entered per U.S. short ton, so the grain mass must be on the same basis before multiplying by the rate.

What does active nutrient percentage mean?

It is the fraction of the commercial product that consists of the nutrient or active material used in the target-rate specification.

Can the product percentage be zero?

No. A zero concentration would require division by zero and cannot supply the stated active nutrient.

What if my target is in grams per metric ton?
