The Homework Homework Calculator combines two homework groups into one weighted average. It is designed for situations such as regular assignments plus projects, early-term homework plus later homework, or two classes whose homework results need to be summarized with different importance.

A simple average can be misleading when the groups carry unequal weight. This calculator applies the percentage assigned to each group, displays each weighted contribution, and returns the combined homework result. It is most useful when both groups use the same 0–100 scoring scale and their weights add to 100%.

Combined homework average = Group A average × Group A weight + Group B average × Group B weight

Weights are converted from percentages to decimals. Both group averages should use the same scoring scale, and the two weights should add to 100%.

What the result means

The result is the weighted average of the two homework groups. The contribution rows show how many percentage points each group adds to the final homework figure.

This model does not automatically weight by assignment count or total points unless the entered percentages already reflect those differences.

Given

Group A average is 82% with a 45% weight. Group B average is 91% with a 55% weight.

Calculation

Group A contribution = 82 × 0.45 = 36.90 points. Group B contribution = 91 × 0.55 = 50.05 points. Combined average = 36.90 + 50.05 = 86.95%.

Result

The combined homework average is 87.0% after rounding to one decimal place.

Why not just average the two scores?

A simple average gives both groups equal influence. Weighted averaging is appropriate when one group counts more than the other.

Can one group have a zero weight?

Yes. The other group must then have a 100% weight, making it the entire combined result.

What if the groups use different point totals?

Convert each group to a percentage first, or set weights based on their intended share of the homework grade.

Can this combine more than two groups?

Not directly. Combine two groups, then use that result as one group in a second calculation with carefully adjusted weights.

Does a higher group score always increase the result?

Yes, as long as its weight is positive. The amount of increase depends on that group’s weight.
