Daily forage cost = Forage kg/day × Forage price/kg

Daily concentrate cost = Concentrate kg/day × Concentrate price/kg

The estimate assumes constant daily quantities and prices across the entered period. Supplements, wastage, storage loss, delivery, and price changes are excluded unless incorporated into the inputs.

What the result means

The main result is the projected feed cost for the entered number of feeding days using the quantities and prices supplied.

For a fuller ownership budget, add bedding, supplements, pasture costs, labor, veterinary care, farrier services, and other expenses separately.

Forage cost/day = 8 × $0.45 = $3.60. Concentrate cost/day = 2 × $0.90 = $1.80. Total/day = $5.40. Annual cost = $5.40 × 365 = $1,971.

Interpretation:
Under constant quantities and prices, forage contributes $1,314.00 and concentrate contributes $657.00 to the annual total.

How do I convert a bag price to price per kilogram?

Divide the bag price by the bag’s net weight in kilograms. For example, a $27 bag weighing 30 kg costs $0.90 per kilogram.

Can I use this for more than one horse?

The inputs are most naturally per horse. To budget a group with the same ration, multiply the resulting annual cost by the number of horses, or calculate horses separately when rations differ.

Does the annual estimate include feed wastage?

Only if you build expected wastage into the daily quantity or unit price. The base calculation assumes every entered kilogram is part of the planned cost.

Why is monthly cost shown as an average?

The calculator divides the annual result by 12. Actual monthly spending may vary with purchase timing, seasonal ration changes, and bulk orders.

Does a lower feed cost mean a better ration?
