Olympic Lifting Training Load Calculator

The Olympic Lifting Training Load Calculator totals external volume from snatch work, clean & jerk work, and an optional pulling block. Each block is calculated from sets, repetitions per set, and average load, then the block tonnages are added to produce one session workload.

This calculator is useful for training logs, weekly volume reviews, and comparing how much of a session came from the two competition lifts versus heavier pulls. It is a volume-load measure only. It does not account for bar speed, technical complexity, missed lifts, percentage of maximum, or how fatiguing one kilogram of pulling volume is compared with one kilogram of competition-lift volume. Keep your inclusion rules consistent if you want the total to be meaningful over time.

Block tonnage = Sets × Reps per set × Average load Total session tonnage = Snatch tonnage + Clean & jerk tonnage + Pull tonnage

Sets = number of included sets
Reps per set = representative repetitions in each set
Average load = average external load in kilograms

Assumptions: This model treats each entered repetition equally in the tonnage sum. If a complex contains different movements or loads, calculate its components separately for higher accuracy.

What the result means

The result is the summed kilograms of external load moved in the three entered Olympic-lifting training blocks.

Tonnage is not a complete fatigue score; technical demand and relative intensity should be reviewed separately.

Given:
Snatch: 6 × 2 at 75 kg
Clean & jerk: 5 × 2 at 95 kg
Pulls: 4 × 3 at 120 kg

Calculation:
Snatch tonnage = 6 × 2 × 75 = 900 kg
Clean & jerk tonnage = 5 × 2 × 95 = 950 kg
Pull tonnage = 4 × 3 × 120 = 1,440 kg
Total = 900 + 950 + 1,440 = 3,290 kg

Result:
3,290 kg

Interpretation: The session contains 3.29 metric tons of logged external volume across the three training blocks.

Should I include missed lifts?

For a completed-work tonnage log, exclude misses because the repetition was not completed. If you track attempted load for fatigue analysis, use a separate convention and keep it consistent.

How should I enter complexes?

If every movement in the complex uses the same load, you can count the total repetitions. If the movements or loads differ, calculate the parts separately for a more accurate total.

Are pulls directly comparable with snatches?

Not in training effect. The calculator adds their tonnage numerically, but pulls may use heavier loads and have different technical and fatigue demands.

Can I leave the pull block empty?

Yes. Blank numeric inputs are treated as zero, so the result can contain only snatch and clean & jerk work.

Does this calculate percentage of maximum?

No. It calculates volume-load from sets, reps, and average load. Relative intensity requires your current maximums or another reference value.
