The tool is useful for feed budgeting and formulation comparisons when you already have an appropriate ration specification or feed analysis. It does not calculate the nutrient requirement of pigs at a given weight or production stage. Nutrient requirements and practical feeding decisions depend on factors such as growth stage, genetics, health, environment, feed intake, digestibility, and the specific nutrient being considered. Can the nutrient percentage be entered on a dry-matter basis?

Yes, but the feed amount must also be expressed on a compatible dry-matter basis. Mixing as-fed feed amounts with dry-matter nutrient percentages will distort the result.

Does this calculator account for nutrient digestibility?

No. It multiplies feed mass by the stated nutrient percentage. If you need digestible or available nutrient supply, use a concentration value already expressed on that basis or use a more detailed nutrition model.

Should I enter feed offered or feed actually eaten?

Use actual intake when you want nutrient consumption. Use feed offered when the planning question is about what the feeding program delivers, understanding that refusals and waste may lower intake.

Why can the result be large over a long period?

The output accumulates the nutrient mass for every pig across every entered day. Check pig count, feed rate, percentage, and period if the total seems unexpected.

How is this different from feed conversion ratio?

Nutrient rate translates a feed concentration into nutrient mass supplied. Feed conversion ratio compares total feed consumed with live-weight gain and does not identify individual nutrients.
