Actual consumption and system demand may be higher or lower depending on temperature, diet, drinker loss, animal size, and other conditions.

Where should the liters-per-pig value come from?

Use a value appropriate for the pig class and operating conditions you are planning for. Local production guidance, veterinary advice, or measured farm use can provide a better basis than a generic default.

Does the reserve percentage change the per-pig allowance?

It does not change the base allowance. It adds an extra volume after the base group requirement is calculated.

Can I use this to size a water tank?

It can provide a planning volume, but tank sizing should also consider refill frequency, usable tank capacity, peak demand, pump capacity, and any required emergency reserve.

What if drinkers waste a lot of water?

Increase the entered reserve or use a daily allowance based on measured system demand rather than animal consumption alone. The calculator cannot separate consumed water from wasted water.

Is this the same as estimating water-to-feed ratio?

No. This tool calculates water volume from a daily per-pig allowance. A water-to-feed ratio would require feed intake as an additional input and answers a different management question.
