Despite the title’s use of “power,” this calculator reports a strength-to-body-weight ratio rather than mechanical power in watts, because a powerlifting total contains load values but no movement-time or velocity information.

The ratio is useful for personal progress tracking, especially when body weight changes, and for quick informal comparisons between totals. A 5.0 ratio means the three-lift total equals five times body weight. It should not be confused with federation scoring formulas, which apply coefficients designed to compare lifters of different sizes more formally, or with true power-to-weight measurements that require work and time.

What the result means

The ratio states how many times body weight the combined three-lift total represents.

For official cross-weight-class scoring, use the coefficient formula required by the relevant federation.

Body weight: 90 kg

Calculation:
Total = 180 + 120 + 220 = 520 kg
Ratio = 520 ÷ 90 = 5.7778
Percentage = 5.7778 × 100 = 577.78%

Result:
5.78× body weight

Interpretation: The three-lift total is approximately 5.78 times the athlete’s body weight.

Is this actually measuring power?

No. Without time or velocity data, a powerlifting total cannot determine watts. The calculator uses the common practical idea of strength relative to body weight.

Should I use weigh-in weight or normal training weight?

For meet comparisons, weigh-in weight is the most consistent choice. For training progress, use whichever body-weight measurement you can reproduce consistently.

Can I compare equipped and raw totals?

You can calculate both, but the comparison is not like-for-like because equipment rules can materially change performance. Keep competition style consistent when tracking progress.

Why is this different from the performance score estimator?

Both use the same underlying ratio, but this page presents the ratio directly, while the performance score estimator multiplies it by 100 as an index.

What if I only know my total and not each lift?

This page requires the three lift inputs. If you know only the total, divide that total by body weight manually to obtain the same ratio.
