1. Define what one inspection unit means

Calculation:
Cycle time = 225 ÷ 300 = 0.75 min/sample; seconds per sample = 45; rate = 300 ÷ 3.75 hr = 80 samples/hr.

Result:
0.750 minutes per sample

The inspection activity averages 45 seconds for each completed sample in this observation.

Should data entry time be included?

Include it if data entry is a required recurring part of completing each inspection unit. Exclude unrelated waiting if you want pure hands-on cycle time.

Can one unit be an inspection lot rather than a piece?

Yes. Define the unit consistently and interpret the result as minutes per lot instead of minutes per piece.

Why use an average instead of the fastest observed time?

An average represents the measured workload over the selected period, while a fastest time may not be repeatable for planning.

How can I compare this with takt time?

Use the same inspection-unit definition. If average cycle time is above takt time, one inspector or station may not have enough nominal pace capacity.

Does this result include inspection accuracy?

No. Cycle time measures speed only; false accepts, false rejects, repeat inspections, and measurement-system capability need separate quality metrics.
