The Study Exam Calculator finds the exam score needed to reach a desired final course grade. It combines the current grade on completed course work with the percentage weight assigned to the exam.
Students can use the result to set a concrete preparation target and see whether that target is mathematically reachable under the entered weighting. The calculator also reports the current weighted contribution, points still needed, and the highest possible final grade if the exam score is 100%. It assumes the current grade applies to all non-exam work.

Express exam weight as a decimal in the formula. The current grade is assumed to represent the entire non-exam portion. If the required score is negative, the target is already secured even with a zero; if it exceeds 100%, the target is outside the standard scoring range.
The main result is the exam percentage needed for the weighted final grade to equal the selected target.
Category weighting, extra credit, dropped scores, and institutional rounding can change the official requirement.
Given: Current non-exam grade 78%, exam weight 30%, target final grade 82%.
Calculation:
Current contribution = 78 × 0.70 = 54.60 points
Points needed from exam = 82 − 54.60 = 27.40
Required exam score = 27.40 ÷ 0.30 = 91.33%
Result: A score of about 91.33% is needed on the exam to finish with 82%.
Use the grade for all non-exam components combined. Do not include the exam before it has been scored.
The selected target is not reachable through the exam alone under the entered weights. Extra credit or changes to other grades would be required.
